"Coach Mike, do
I really have to swim this? It's too long and I don't want to do three laps of
backstroke. That's very hard, the last time when I did backstroke, I chocked on
the water and I thought that's my last breath!" I complained. But while I
am complaining, Coach Mike burst out laughing because of what I said to him.
Today is our last training for the competition that will be held tomorrow. I am
their representative so that I must do my best for that competition.
The
competition day came,I was standing next to my coach. I remember when I lose my
first competition, so in this one, my goal is to become a placer. But I felt
edgy and nervous when I saw the swimming pool it was long and we must finish three
laps of three different strokes.I want to back out.
"Too late for that,” I opined as the announcer stated that the player must
in their own shoes at the count of ten. “Yeah! You can do that Joy, be
confident"Couch said as I ran over to get ready. "Swimmers step
up, go to your diving blocks" announcer said. I looked at the contestants
and they looked so ready and professional. The swimmers bent down, I am ready,
but inside my stomach was on the world's biggest roller coaster and my heart was
the one who wanted to jump out into the pool.
Wuuuuuut!
The buzzer went off, we jump in the water, it was peaceful but I remember that I
must finish the three laps of three different strokes, so I kicked my feet
hardly. I finished the butterfly and breaststroke laps. When I pushed off the
wall for the backstroke laps, my legs become tired and heavy like stones wanting
to sink lower and lower. I needed air, but I can't stop, "Keep going!"
someone urged. When I approached the wall for the last lap, I felt someone coming
up behind me, but I wanted to get there first. Kick, stroke, breathe, kick,
stroke, breathe, all swimmers were like sharks. I touched the wall and catching
my breath.People cheered, I never thought that I'd got the first place. Now I
felt strong and confident. Thank you Lord,Couch Mike and to my family who are
always there for me.
